    One-Off 2012 BOSS 302 Mustang Heads To Barrett-Jackson

As we are gearing up for our week-long on-site wall-2-wall coverage of the 2011 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction, Ford has begun to lift the veil on their special auction cars for this year’s event.

Ford has offered up a number of special, early production or one-of-a-kind cars in the past few years for charity auction sales that have made headlines around the globe. This year a one-of-a-kind factory-painted Grabber Blue 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca will be sold to the highest bidder with none other than racing great Parnelli Jones providing commentary from the auction stage with Ford’s Mustang team. Jones won the 1970 Trans-Am season opener in a Boss 302 and the Laguna Seca is named after the track where he won that race.

While many might have been disappointed that Grabber Blue was not on the option sheet for the new BOSS 302 Laguna Seca edition, one lucky and well heeled buyer will be able to take this one home, their money over MSRP going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. JDRF has been a benefactor of a number of Ford and Ford Racing auctions in the past few years.

“Like the legendary Parnelli Jones, the Boss Mustang we will be auctioning is truly one-of-a-kind. It is the only 2012 Grabber Blue Boss 302 Laguna Seca we will ever build,” said Ford’s Mark Fields. “The winning bidder on this car will not only become part of Mustang history but also will be a pioneer in the next chapter of the Boss legacy. At the same time, he or she will be contributing to a worthy cause, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.”

    Hey all

    Big Daddy here

Well... Thank you Ford. While I agree the cause is a worthy one the fact they do this only helps local dealers to up the price. Barrett Jackson auctions only serve the I want it don't care about the cost generation which is wonderful for them but what it does is price us local yokels right out of the market. I was at my Ford dealership yesterday getting an oil change when the Boss came up in conversation. They told me they are already taking pre-orders! I was assured they would not tack on a "limited edition" fee. I guess I will just have to wait and see. I was planning on trying to work out a deal on one but for know I am in a holding pattern to see if they are true to thier word.
Do your folks know you still play with cars?
    Are we having fun yet!

Yep. About what I thought it would get. As it turns out the most expensive car sold at Barrett-Jackson. But...charity cars always sell for lots and that price is artificial as a result.
