"Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge"
My entry application was approved. I am now one of a thousand, "Challengers."
This promises to be the adventure of a lifetime, an epic journey and the ultimate Road Trip! I am certain to experience both pleasure and hardship, opportunity and difficulty. This is a motorcycle expedition with no previous equal. It is being hailed as, "The Iditarod for Harley-Davidson." And, there is a half-million dollar prize for the shortest elapsed time!

June, 2010 will be a busy month: Phoenix to Mustang, Oklahoma; and back to Phoenix, with my 'Stang comrades!
A few days later: Phoenix to Key West, Florida; then on to Homer, Alaska; followed by a stop in Sturgis, South Dakota; and, home to Arizona on the Hog. :usa:

Good Luck and Safe travels to you Charlie. What an amazing adventure. Don't you try too hard for that "shortest elapsed time". I'm tipping sitting down won't be high on the agenda once you return. :D

Hey David,
Thank you! I am looking forward to a great adventure.
Hey Martin,
Thank you! We will see what happens regarding my elapsed time. I will be taking a few long distance, "conditioning trips," prior to the Challenge.
Most of the required gear is on hand, including a modified seat and a sheepskin - gel backed seat-cover. Hopefully, sitting down after the event will not be a problem. :)
And, my lovely bride is supporting me all the way. Hey, I am already a winner! :luvu:
All the best,
Charlie

Good luck to you Charlie, what are your plans with the winnings? If you can post a picture showing your route on a map would be great. What do you mean your wonderful wife is supporting you, are you sitting on her lap?

Hey Bob,
Thank you! No plans. I am not one to count the chickens before they hatch.
The route will not be disclosed in advance. As we begin the Challenge we will receive maps for the first leg, rumored to be approximately one-thousand miles. It has been reported, the first checkpoint is in Mississippi. Upon arrival at each checkpoint we will then receive maps for the next leg.
The organizers have indicated the route will cover more than seven-thousand miles, primarily using secondary roads. Thankfully, they have promised there will be no unpaved roads utilized during the Challenge. Tortilla Flats is mentioned in my, "Welcome," letter. This would bring us back through the desert within fifty miles of Phoenix. I believe this is likely since the organizers have repeatedly made it clear, "This will be a motorcycle Challenge like no other." Creating a route through the Southwest, possibly turning north and traveling through Death Valley region, then up to Canada via the Pacific Northwest would definitely be challenging. British Columbia, the Yukon Territory and Alaska will be no picnic, either! ;)
One thing is for certain, traveling north from Key West, we will be traveling on US-1. :) Been there, done that.
My lovely bride is symbolically supporting my adventure! :D
All the best,
Charlie

Charlie sounds like a great trip and yes it is a very long haul from the Canadian border to Homer Alaska...about 2500 miles from my house one way. Would be a fun drive with the top down in the middle of summer.

Hey Brian,
If you are up for it, let me know. I could call you from the last checkpoint, before I cross the border, and share the route information. It would be my pleasure to have you cruise along! :headbang:
All the best,
Charlie

Hey Charlie,
I can attest to this "condition" you speak of. I recall following you for about two days going to Birmingham and not being able to use fifth gear or the cruise control. I also remember we let you get in front because you said you knew the way :). I'll take your word though on that red car business.
